CAIRO - 20 May 2026: Military solutions will not bring security to the Middle East and will only deepen ongoing regional conflicts, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said during a Wednesday panel discussion at Chatham House in London.
Abdelatty highlighted the severe repercussions of regional escalation on international security, maritime freedom, energy markets, and global supply chains.
He emphasized Egypt's ongoing efforts with international partners to support the US-Iran negotiation track to de-escalate tensions.
The Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt's absolute rejection of any violations touching the sovereignty or stability of Arab nations, noting that Gulf security remains an integral part of Egypt's national security.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm stance on the Palestinian cause as the core of Middle East stability, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also urged the preservation of state institutions and political solutions in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Lebanon, adding that sustainable peace requires regional economic development alongside political security.
