CAIRO - 20 May 2026: Egypt is moving steadily toward a promising future, backed by unprecedented national and development projects, Egypt’s ambassador to France and permanent delegate to UNESCO Tarek Dahroug said.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Egyptian community in southern France on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, Dahroug said the urban, economic and cultural transformation underway in Egypt reflects a comprehensive national vision for building the “New Republic.”

The event coincided with Egypt being named “Guest of Honor” at a ceremony organized by the “Better World for Humanity” foundation during the festival.

Dahroug conveyed the greetings of Egypt’s political leadership to Egyptians living in France, stressing the state’s commitment to strengthening their ties with their homeland and supporting their role as a cultural and development bridge across the Mediterranean.

He said the government remained committed to safeguarding the interests of Egyptians abroad and involving them in the country’s sustainable development efforts across various sectors.

The ambassador also highlighted state initiatives targeting Egyptians overseas, describing them as key partners in the country’s achievements and a pillar of its development drive. Egyptians abroad, he added, play an active role in building the “New Republic” and shaping the country’s future.

Dahroug said he was proudof Egypt’s strong presence at the Cannes Film Festival, describing it as a reflection of the country’s soft power and cultural standing on the international stage.

The meeting included an open discussion during which Dahroug listened to proposals and views from members of the Egyptian community and reviewed major national projects and development plans currently underway in Egypt.

Members of the Egyptian community expressed appreciation for the state’s attention to Egyptians abroad and voiced pride in Egypt’s continued presence at international events.
