CAIRO – 19 May 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Mustafa Ferjani, Tunisia’s Minister of Health, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the health sector and exchange expertise and successful experiences in healthcare.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of their participation in the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said the meeting addressed strengthening the partnership between the two sides within the framework of the “One Health” approach.

He explained that the approach aims to support efforts to confront regional health challenges, most notably combating epidemics, enhancing health security, addressing the repercussions of climate change, combating antimicrobial resistance, and ensuring food and water safety.

He added that the two ministers discussed ways to cooperate in developing primary healthcare, hospital management, and emergency systems. They also discussed activating agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries, supporting cooperation in medical tourism, unified procurement of medicines and medical supplies, and the exchange of physicians in priority specialties.

He further noted that both sides stressed the importance of continued joint coordination to support the Palestinian health sector and enhance rapid response efforts to health emergencies, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening health security across the Arab and African regions.
