CAIRO – 19 May 2026: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held an extensive meeting with a number of British officials and parliamentarians on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on the latest regional and international developments.
The meetings included Hamish Faulkner, UK Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan; MP Mark Pritchard, Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Egypt (APPG); and Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty praised the depth of Egyptian-British relations during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of continuing to develop various aspects of bilateral cooperation and boosting British investment in Egypt to advance the mutual interests of the two friendly countries.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening economic, investment, and trade ties by preparing for an investment and business conference aimed at opening new avenues for cooperation and supporting the economic partnership between the two sides.
The official spokesperson added that the Foreign Minister reviewed the efforts being made to attract foreign investment and highlighted the promising investment opportunities offered by the Egyptian market across various sectors. He noted the Egyptian economy’s ability to withstand regional and international challenges despite the widespread repercussions of regional tensions and their impact on the global economy, energy markets, and supply chains.
Minister Abdelatty also emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with the British Parliament, including both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, given Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the Middle East and its efforts to contain regional crises and promote political and diplomatic solutions.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s active role in addressing the threats and challenges facing the region, particularly developments related to the US-Iranian negotiations, the Palestinian issue, and the situations in Sudan and Lebanon.
The meeting included an interactive discussion during which participants exchanged views and assessments on regional and international issues. They also emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve regional and international security and stability.
