CAIRO - 19 May 2026: Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with his counterpart, Dr. Robert Lucien, Minister of Health of Burkina Faso, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly, currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various health fields, with the aim of developing healthcare systems and expanding equitable access to high-quality health services for the citizens of both nations.
He added that the meeting included discussions on mechanisms to strengthen strategic partnerships and institutional coordination between the two sides, with a focus on supporting African cooperation in the health sector in line with regional and international health goals and priorities.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry and exchanging expertise in vaccine and drug manufacturing, as well as collaboration in biotechnology, capacity building, and developing the skills of medical personnel through training and professional education opportunities.
Both ministers also discussed cooperation in disease prevention, epidemic surveillance, and rapid response to health emergencies and pandemics. Furthermore, they explored the exchange of expertise in digital health and health data management.
This meeting reflects the Ministry of Health and Population's commitment to strengthening international and African cooperation and sharing successful experiences to develop the health sector in Egypt and other African countries.
