CAIRO - 19 May 2026: President of Cairo University, Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, received Tuesday a delegation from EMUNI Euro-Mediterranean University in Slovenia, headed by Dr. Rado Bohinc, the university's president, at his office.
 
The meeting, which was also attended by Sašo Podlesnik, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Cairo, focused on ways to enhance cooperation between the two institutions in higher education and scientific research.
 
This aligns with Cairo University's strategy to expand its international partnerships with prestigious universities and academic institutions worldwide.
 
 
Academic Programs and Student Exchange
 
The meeting addressed opportunities for launching joint academic and research programs in several disciplines, exchanging faculty and student visits, and strengthening collaboration on research projects of mutual interest through the Erasmus+ agreement.
 
This collaboration aims to contribute to the transfer and localization of knowledge and the exchange of academic and research expertise.
 
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek welcomed the President of EMUNI University and the Slovenian Ambassador to Cairo University, highlighting Cairo University's long and distinguished history and its large student body of both Egyptian and international students. Dr. Abdel-Sadek also emphasized Cairo University's efforts in building international academic partnerships based on knowledge integration and the exchange of expertise, rather than mere traditional cooperation.
 
The President of Cairo University affirmed the university's commitment to diversifying its forms of international academic cooperation through joint educational programs and the organization of summer and winter schools in various fields.
 
He noted that this contributes to enhancing cultural and scientific interaction among students and researchers of different nationalities.
 
He further pointed out that openness to international academic institutions supports the university's competitiveness and strengthens its position in global rankings, in addition to preparing graduates with cross-border skills capable of effectively contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
 
 
Formation of a Joint Committee
 
During the meeting, the President of Cairo University directed the formation of a joint committee between the two universities, chaired by Dr. Mahmoud El-Saeed, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, to explore mechanisms for expanding areas of joint cooperation in the coming period in disciplines of mutual interest.
 
For his part, Dr. Radu Bohinc, President of the Euro-Mediterranean University of EMUNI, expressed his delight at visiting Cairo University, praising its history and prestigious academic standing. He explained that EMUNI University was founded in 2008 and draws upon a network of over 130 universities from 33 countries, aiming to promote understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of the Mediterranean region.
 
He added that the university offers numerous accredited academic programs and conducts specialized scientific research in the fields of business and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. It also organizes conferences and workshops to discuss the most pressing challenges facing the region.  
 
Meanwhile, Sašo Podlesnik, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Cairo, commended Cairo University's distinguished academic standing, international reputation, and scientific and research contributions. He affirmed his country's desire to broaden the horizons of scientific and cultural cooperation with the university in the coming period.
 
At the end of the meeting, shields and commemorative gifts were exchanged, and the Slovenian delegation toured the Grand Hall of Cairo University.
