CAIRO - 19 May 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger on Monday to exchange views on regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions.

Abdelatty briefed his Austrian counterpart on Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts with regional and international partners to promote calm, stressing the importance of supporting the U.S.-Iran negotiating track to boost regional stability.

The minister also underscored the necessity of securing international navigation in global waterways as a cornerstone of the global economy.

Regarding Gaza, Abdelatty stressed that regional escalation must not distract from implementing the US peace plan, including deploying an international stability force and ensuring unhindered humanitarian aid.

On Lebanon, he reaffirmed Egypt's support for Lebanese sovereignty, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal and the comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Meinl-Reisinger praised Egypt's constructive role, and both ministers agreed that diplomacy remains the optimal path forward.
