“On behalf of the Libyan House of Representatives, we express our deepest thanks and appreciation to the Egyptian House of Representatives, and we affirm the sincere shared will of both countries to communicate, meet, and cooperate,” Saleh said.

He continued: “Egypt occupies a distinguished position among nations, and its people are known for their hospitality and for welcoming immigrants, students, political refugees, and those seeking a livelihood. Everyone turns to Egypt seeking openness and support; it is a country people can rely on for safety.”

Saleh added that the relationship between the Egyptian and Libyan peoples transcends traditional concepts, geography, and borders. “It is a relationship of neighbors and brothers, bound by blood and shared destiny,” he said.

He affirmed that Libyans have never forgotten, and will never forget, Egypt’s support. “It is a refuge not only for Libya, but for all Arabs. These are unbreakable bonds, linked by language, kinship, and brotherhood for hundreds of years. This spirit of good neighborliness and this enduring relationship have fostered deep ties between the two peoples, enabling them to withstand conspiracies and crises. Egypt has always stood, and continues to stand, in support of the Libyan people without reservation or condition.”

Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, affirmed that Egypt has been and remains the greatest supporter of the Libyan people throughout history, emphasizing that its nationalistic stances towards Libya will always be appreciated and cherished by the Libyan people.

He stated that Egyptian-Libyan relations extend back through history, explaining that Egypt played a pivotal role in establishing the Libyan army during World War II, when it was known as the "Libyan Arab Force." Officers and soldiers received their training from Egyptian officers, and Egypt also provided refuge to Libyan resistance leaders and supported the fighters against the occupation.

He added that Egypt continued its support for Libya after independence, both in terms of preserving Libyan territorial integrity and through contributions to the education, health, housing, and agriculture sectors.

He affirmed that Cairo stood by the Libyan people during the events of 2011, contributing to alleviating humanitarian and economic suffering, in addition to supporting the Libyan House of Representatives, national institutions, and the Libyan Armed Forces in confronting terrorist groups.

Aguila Saleh pointed out that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has set an example in providing humanitarian support to the Libyan people, especially during the disaster in the city of Derna, where Egyptian rescue and aid teams were among the first to arrive in the city.

He stressed that the Egyptian position that supports the unity and stability of Libya has not changed, and that it continues to push for a comprehensive political solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, stability, and the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections.

Counselor Aguila Saleh affirmed that Egypt has always been a refuge for all, providing unlimited support to help Libya confront Italian colonialism even while Egypt itself was facing British rule.

He pointed out that even as the Egyptian people resisted occupation, Egyptians never ceased supporting the Libyan resistance in its struggle.

He noted that Egyptian media, intellectuals, and diplomats have consistently championed Libya's cause, conveying the challenges the nation has faced throughout history.

He added, "Egypt was a beacon for all and a center of influence," emphasizing that while enemies of the nations once tried to erect barbed-wire fences to block supplies, Egyptian aid still reached the revolutionaries, enabling them to confront Italian colonialism.

The remarks came during Saleh’s speech at the plenary session of the Egyptian House of Representatives on Monday, chaired by Counselor Hisham Badawi. The session was dedicated to discussing ways to strengthen Egyptian-Libyan relations and was attended by Counselor Aguila Saleh.

The session was held within the framework of supporting joint cooperation between Egypt and Libya and exploring mechanisms to enhance parliamentary and political coordination between the two countries. It also aimed to contribute to consolidating stability and supporting development efforts and joint cooperation, based on the historical relations and close ties between the two brotherly peoples.
