CAIRO - 18 May 2026: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed the necessity of distancing Iraq from any regional conflicts that could compromise its stability during a telephone call with the new Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi.
Sisi congratulated Zaidi on assuming office, wishing the country security and prosperity under the new Iraqi government, according to a Monday statement by presidential spokesperson Mohamed el-Shenawy.
The president emphasized Egypt's commitment to boosting bilateral ties and advancing cooperation through the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Iraqi Joint Higher Committee.
For his part, Zaidi highlighted Iraq's keenness to develop trade and investment relations, as well as enhance political coordination on regional issues.
The two leaders also discussed mechanisms to safeguard Arab state sovereignty amid current regional challenges.
