CAIRO – 17 May 2026: Egypt’s fish resources protection agency on Sunday rejected “irresponsible” reports and videos alleging that dead poultry was being diverted for use in fish feed production.
In a statement, the Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency called the claims “unfounded,” adding that no official proof exists that the poultry in question was intended for fish feed manufacturing or had entered fish feed production systems.
The agency reassured citizens that fish produced in Egyptian farms are safe for human consumption and that the sector operates under strict monitoring.
Measures to ensure safety includes inspection of feed quality and ingredients, veterinary and health oversight of farmed fish, and continuous tracking of production stages from start to harvest, the statement noted.
Moreover, biosecurity standards in fish farms follow both local and international requirements, the agency emphasized, noting that any violations involving non-compliant or prohibited materials are dealt with “firmly and immediately.”
