CAIRO – 16 May 2026: Egypt and Eritrea signed an agreement for cooperation in the field of maritime transport on Saturday, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the visit of Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, and Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Egyptian Minister of Transport, to the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on Saturday, May 16, the agreement was signed in the presence of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea.
The agreement represents an important step towards strengthening logistical connectivity between the two countries, supporting trade and investment, and opening new horizons for economic and developmental cooperation, the statement said.
This reflects the keenness of the political leadership in both countries to elevate bilateral relations to broader levels and maximize the benefits of their strategic location on the Red Sea, the statement added.
