CAIRO – 15 May 2026: The United States Department of State announced a 45-day extension of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
In a post on X, State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated: “The April 16 cessation of hostilities will be extended by 45 days to enable further progress.”
Pigott said the agreement followed two days of “highly productive” talks hosted by the United States between Israeli and Lebanese representatives on May 14 and 15.
He also announced that the State Department will reconvene the political track of negotiations on June 2 and 3 as efforts continue to maintain stability and advance diplomatic discussions between the two sides.
