CAIRO – 15 May 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday, with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the two ministers affirmed their pride in the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia and their shared commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation across various fields, in accordance with the directives of the political leadership in both countries.

Minister Abdelatty commended the progress achieved in several joint projects, most notably the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.
He emphasized the importance of expediting cooperation on these projects and attracting more Russian investments in priority sectors.
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the importance of strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries and working to increase the volume of Russian investments in Egypt.
In this context, he reviewed the Egyptian government's efforts to improve the investment climate and develop the legislative and institutional environment to support the role of the private sector.
He also commended the existing cooperation in grain imports, expressing his aspiration to strengthen it and explore the possibility of establishing a grain logistics center with Russian participation.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination between the two countries within the BRICS framework, including supporting efforts to reform the global financial system and strengthening the role of the Development Bank in supporting the priorities of developing countries.
The meeting also addressed regional developments, with Minister Abdelatty outlining Egypt's efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. He stressed the importance of adhering to the diplomatic and negotiating track between the United States and Iran, which contributes to supporting regional security and stability.

For his part, Lavrov expressed his country's appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with Egypt, emphasizing the importance of continued consultation and coordination between the two sides on issues of mutual interest, reflecting the level of partnership between the two countries.
