CAIRO - 6 May 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the "Africa-France" summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
In a Tuesday statement, Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy said the president expressed Egypt's appreciation for Guterres’ leadership of the UN during a period of complex international crises.
Sisi praised the ongoing development cooperation between Egypt and the UN, specifically the 2023-2027 framework aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
Guterres lauded the president’s diplomatic efforts to bolster security in the Middle East and Africa, describing Egypt’s role as a cornerstone of regional stability.
The meeting addressed current regional developments, including tensions involving Iran. Both leaders expressed a shared concern regarding the negative impact of regional uncertainty on global stability.
President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s full support for Gulf states, rejecting any encroachment on their sovereignty or security.
He emphasized the pivotal role of UN agencies in delivering humanitarian aid to Sudan and the Gaza Strip.
for his part, Guterres noted the significant financial pressures facing these agencies, while thanking Egypt for its prominent role in alleviating human suffering caused by these conflicts.
