El-Sisi welcomes Macron in Alexandria ‘the bride of the Mediterranean’

CAIRO – 10 May 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron as a distinguished guest during his visit to Alexandria, “the bride of the Mediterranean.”

“My friend, President Emmanuel Macron, welcome as a distinguished guest to Alexandria, the bride of the Mediterranean,” El-Sisi said in a social media post.

El-Sisi’s comment comes after he and President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the new campus of Senghor University in New Borg El Arab, Alexandria, on Saturday.

Université Senghor is a French-language international institution dedicated to supporting development in Africa.

Macron said the inauguration of the new campus reflects Egypt’s “remarkable commitment to Francophonie.”

El-Sisi also accompanied Macron on a tour along the tourist promenade on the Alexandria Corniche, continuing to the historic Qaitbay Citadel.
