Comprehensive Health Insurance - FILE
CAIRO - 6 May 2026: Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, affirmed that Minya Governorate's inclusion in the Comprehensive Health Insurance System represents a true test and a significant challenge that will reveal the system's readiness and institutional capacity for success, serving as a guiding model to be subsequently implemented in the rest of the governorates of the Republic.
This came during an important meeting held by the Minister, attended by the Governor of Minya via video conference, the President of Minya University, the Deputy Ministers, heads of regulatory and accreditation bodies, healthcare providers, the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, and other ministry and relevant authorities, to follow up on the latest preparations for the governorate's integration into the system.
Comprehensive Health Coverage
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar explained that the scale of work and achievements to be accomplished in Minya will constitute a strong incentive and a model to be emulated in completing the journey towards comprehensive health coverage for all citizens, emphasizing that the success of the pilot program there will give significant momentum to the larger national project.
During his direct monitoring of the implementation procedures in preparation for the pilot operation, the Minister stressed the need for concerted efforts from all parties to expedite the timelines and accelerate the completion of non-medical furnishings and the installation of medical and technological equipment at the targeted healthcare facilities.
Primary Healthcare
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the Minister was fully satisfied with the readiness of the primary healthcare units and hospitals in the governorate.
The meeting reviewed the progress made on the ground, most notably the supply and installation of essential medical equipment such as: ultrasound machines, electrocardiographs, oxygen generators, and sterilization equipment, in addition to equipping dental clinics and laboratories to the highest standards.
The spokesperson added that the Minister also monitored the supply of surgical instruments and the equipping of operating rooms according to the latest international standards, while emphasizing full compliance with infection control and civil protection requirements, and raising the efficiency of all facilities to ensure their conformity with comprehensive quality standards.
The meeting also reviewed the assessment of the technological infrastructure, including the installation of fiber optic cables and the supply of equipment necessary to connect all facilities to the unified electronic system.
This step reflects the seriousness and scientific planning required to ensure a successful and sustainable experience that serves the people of Minya and paves the way for the system's nationwide implementation.
