CAIRO – May 6, 2026: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Expatriates, received David Morrison, Senior Advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister, today in Cairo. The high-level meeting focused on deepening bilateral ties and addressing critical regional and international developments.
Minister Abdelatty highlighted the strong relations between Egypt and Canada, expressing Egypt’s commitment to expanding economic and trade cooperation. He specifically encouraged Canadian firms to increase their investments in key sectors, including energy, agriculture, and water resource management, noting the attractive investment incentives currently offered by the Egyptian state.
The discussion covered Egypt's ongoing efforts to contain regional tensions. The Minister reaffirmed Egypt's support for the negotiation track between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that diplomatic solutions are essential to de-escalate military tensions and safeguard international navigation. He stressed that any regional settlement must address the security concerns of neighboring countries, particularly the Arab Gulf states.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of completing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan. He highlighted two critical steps for the transition period:
The commencement of the National Committee for Gaza Management’s duties from within the Strip.The rapid deployment of an International Stability Force to secure the environment during the transition. The Minister also reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection and condemnation of ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank.
Morrison expressed Canada's deep appreciation for Egypt’s proactive role in maintaining regional stability and its tireless efforts in crisis management and peaceful settlements.
