CAIRO - 5 May 2026: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reviewed the core directions of Egyptian foreign policy on Tuesday, highlighting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's vision of maintaining balance in international relations and diversifying global partnerships.
During a meeting with the Senate's Foreign, Arab, and African Affairs Committee, chaired by Dr. Mohamed Kamal, the Minister affirmed that Egypt's support for its Arab neighbors remains steadfast in both word and deed. He emphasized that this support reflects a firm, long-term commitment to the security and stability of the region.
Minister Abdelatty stressed that Egypt continuously strives to mediate conflicts and prevent military escalation, citing the severe negative impacts such tensions have on regional and international security. He also provided a review of recent developments in negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Addressing several pressing regional issues, the Minister reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan and the preservation of its state institutions. He also reiterated Egypt's consistent and principled position regarding the situation in Libya.
On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians or infringe upon their historical rights. He emphasized that Egypt remains dedicated to reaching solutions that guarantee long-term stability in the Gaza Strip.
The Minister also addressed the critical issue of water security, emphasizing that there are "red lines" regarding Egypt's rights to the Nile waters that cannot be crossed. In response to inquiries from committee members, the Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of bolstering Egypt's "soft power" tools abroad as a means of enhancing the nation's international standing.
Furthermore, he noted that the political leadership has issued directives to expedite the digitization of consular services to better serve Egyptian citizens living abroad.
Finally, the Minister revealed that the Ministry is preparing to hold a conference for the Egyptian diaspora this coming August. The event, which will include active parliamentary participation, aims to discuss the primary concerns of Egyptians abroad. He stressed that close cooperation between the government and parliament is essential for the success of such initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Major General Ahmed El-Awady, Deputy Speaker of the Senate, alongside committee members Dr. Effat El-Sadat and Dr. Yasser Abdel-Maqsoud.
