CAIRO - 5 May 2026: The Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) announced the launch of the first program in Egypt to award the African Sustainable Medical Tourism Label, in cooperation with the African Organization for Standardization (Africa 2008).

This initiative aims to support the development of quality medical and logistical services across the African continent.

Dr. Khaled Soufy, head of EOS, stated that the program reflects the country's commitment to establishing quality and sustainability standards in Africa.

He explained that EOS's role extends beyond simply issuing certificates; it encompasses building an integrated system that supports medical institutions and spas, helping them enhance their competitiveness in global markets.

He added that unifying national standards with their African and international counterparts, such as the International Standard for Medical Tourism and the African Standard for Sustainable Medical Tourism, is a fundamental pillar for supporting Egypt's position as a leading destination for medical tourism, while ensuring the provision of high-quality, efficient, and sustainable services.

For its part, the Certification Unit for Operations and Services at the Authority oversees the entire review, evaluation, and certification process, acting as an independent and impartial body. This ensures that medical institutions adhere to African standards based on international specifications and enhances the confidence of international insurance companies and medical tourism program organizers.

Dr. Heba Saad, Director of the Certification Unit, explained that obtaining the African Sustainable Medical Tourism Label provides institutions with greater opportunities to expand into regional and international markets through their listing on the African Organization for Standardization's platforms. It also improves their operational efficiency by implementing quality systems and optimizing resource utilization.

She added that the label enhances the credibility of institutions internationally by demonstrating their commitment to patient protection, environmental and social responsibility standards, and alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

This opens doors to regional and international funding and support opportunities and reduces operational risks associated with dealing with international patients.
