CAIRO - 2 May 2026: The Egyptian Law on Combating Illegal Migration and Smuggling of Migrants, stipulates penalties for anyone who prepares or manages a shelter for smuggled migrants.

In this regard, Article (8) of the Law No. 82 of 2016 states that anyone who prepares or manages a shelter for smuggled migrants, or who gathers or transports them, or who facilitates or provides them with any services, with proof of their knowledge of this, shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine of no less than 200,000 EGP and no more than 500,000 EGP.

The law aims to address the phenomenon of illegal migration and combat it in accordance with international frameworks issued in this regard by increasing certain penalties imposed on violators to match the severity of the crimes committed.

This is intended to achieve the desired deterrent effect on both the general and specific levels, and is consistent with the objectives of the National Strategy for Combating Illegal Migration.
