WASHINGTON – 1 May 2026: US President Donald Trump said the war with Iran has “terminated” and that a ceasefire remains in effect, according to a letter sent to congressional leaders on Friday, Reuters reported.

In the letter, submitted on a legal deadline requiring consultation with Congress on military engagements, Trump said there had been no exchange of fire since the ceasefire took hold.

“The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” he said.

The notification comes under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which limits a president’s ability to conduct military operations without congressional approval to 60 days, with a possible 30-day extension under specific conditions.
