CAIRO - 30 April 2026: Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said in a statement that over the past few years, the WHO has taken several steps to make the world safer from future emergencies and pandemics.

He added that one of these goals has been to strengthen the capacity for local production of vaccines and other tools through the mRNA Technology Transfer Programme, based in South Africa, and the WHO Biomanufacturing Workforce Training Initiative, based in the Republic of Korea.

The WHO announced Wednesday that it has established regional training centers in each of its six regions to build the skilled workforce needed to support local production of vaccines and biological products.

Regional vaccine production training centers include Egypt

The new training centers are located in Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Ireland, Senegal, and South Africa.

They will operate as part of a coordinated global network, providing context-specific training that aligns with regional priorities, regulatory environments, and languages.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted Polaris II, which tested how systems respond to a hypothetical global bacterial outbreak.

Polaris II involved 600 health emergency experts and 25 partner organizations from 26 countries and territories, representing all regions and income levels.

Polaris II is part of HorizonX, WHO’s multi-year simulation exercise program.

It provides a vital platform for testing emergency frameworks under real-life conditions, ensuring that collective preparedness is not a periodic effort but an ongoing investment.
