CAIRO - 28 April 2026: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call Tuesday from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
President El-Sisi congratulated the Japanese Prime Minister on the resounding victory achieved by the Liberal Democratic Party under her leadership in the February 2026 general elections, emphasizing Egypt's pride in the distinguished relations and strategic partnership with Japan.
For her part, the Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for the call with the President, noting her government's commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership with Egypt, and affirming Japan's pride in its developmental role in supporting vital Egyptian national projects.
The official spokesperson added that the call addressed the full spectrum of bilateral relations between Egypt and Japan.
President El-Sisi emphasized the growing momentum in various areas of cooperation, particularly in the education sector, expressing his aspiration to expand the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project and increase its number in Egypt. He also noted Japan's significant contribution to supporting several pivotal projects, most notably the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The President further expressed his anticipation of the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to Egypt soon to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields, including increasing investments and expanding Japanese tourism to Egypt, commensurate with the depth of the distinguished relations between the two countries.
The spokesperson indicated that the call also touched upon developments in several regional issues of mutual interest, most prominently the Iranian crisis.
Both sides affirmed the convergence of views on the necessity of reaching a peaceful settlement that spares the region the consequences of escalation and prevents further negative impacts on the global economy.
In this context, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for the security and sovereignty of the Gulf States, Iraq, and Jordan, outlining Egypt's efforts to resolve the crisis, as well as its endeavors to move forward with implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, and ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
For her part, Takaichi expressed Japan's deep appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt, under the leadership of President El-Sisi in ensuring regional security and stability.
She also affirmed her government's commitment to strengthening political consultation and coordination with Egypt regarding current regional and international developments.
