CAIRO – 27 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with his Kenyan counterpart, Aden Barry Duale, on Monday to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Health Summit in Nairobi, in the presence of Ambassador Hatem Yousry, Egypt’s Ambassador to Kenya.
Minister Abdel Ghaffar affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting the development of Kenya’s health system. He emphasized the importance of expediting the signing of pending memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, explained that the discussions focused on sharing Egypt’s pioneering experience in eradicating Hepatitis C and treating cancer, as well as supporting Kenya’s efforts to achieve universal health coverage.
The two ministers finalized details for two strategic MoUs: the first one, is about human resource and pharmaceutical cooperation, a plan to facilitate the registration and transfer of pharmaceutical technology, aiming to establish Kenya as a regional hub for Egyptian pharmaceuticals in East Africa.
The second MoU is a medical partnership, a collaboration between Egypt’s Nasser Institute and Kenyatta University’s Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) to establish Kenya’s first bone marrow transplant unit, activate telemedicine services, and exchange expertise in the early detection of breast, colon, and childhood cancers.
Both sides commended the pivotal role of the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi as a successful model of Egyptian health diplomacy, noting its ongoing success in providing high-quality medical services with the support of Egyptian medical teams.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the ministers agreed to form joint technical committees to accelerate the registration of medical products and to encourage Egyptian private sector investment in Kenya’s health infrastructure, hospital management, and diagnostic centers. This initiative reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to enhance continental health security and deepen African partnerships.
