CAIRO - 27 April 2026: Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company Pilot Wael El Nashar revealed that airport development work is proceeding according to a specific timetable and clear plan, serving the Egyptian state's vision and development goals.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, he explained that the construction of new passenger terminals at El Alamein, Sphinx, and the New Administrative Capital airports is currently under study as part of the airports' expansion plan, instead of expanding existing terminals.
El Nashar pointed out that the study of new terminals is being conducted while maintaining operational efficiency within the existing terminals without disrupting traffic.
Furthermore, a study of the estimated financial cost of expanding the airport terminals shows that it would not be significantly different from building a new terminal. Therefore, the study is focusing on constructing new terminals to accommodate future traffic.
Egyptian airports have witnessed an unprecedented leap forward in their licensing system, as part of the state's efforts to develop the civil aviation sector and improve operational efficiency.
New licenses have been granted to the Capital International Airport and Marsa Matrouh International Airport, in addition to the renewal of Sohag International Airport's license for two years following the completion of airfield upgrades. This reflects a clear commitment to implementing the highest safety and quality standards.
The development efforts also included adding Sphinx, Assiut, and El Alamein airports to the list of licensed airports during 2025, as well as renewing the license for Hurghada International Airport for three years, and renewing the licenses for Luxor and Sphinx airports for two years during 2026.
In a related context, and as part of a comprehensive plan to develop its operations, the Egyptian Airports Company announced a new milestone: obtaining, for the first time, Integrated Management System (IMS) certifications, in accordance with international standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
This certification was achieved at the company's headquarters and several of its affiliated airports, reflecting a high level of institutional commitment to implementing quality, sustainability, and occupational safety standards.
