WASHINGTON – 25 April 2026: US President Donald Trump told Axios that he has canceled a planned trip by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad for talks with Iran to reach a deal.

He cited Iran’s position in ongoing peace negotiations, saying he sees “no point” in sending the delegation on a long flight under the current circumstances in the talks.

“We can do it just as well by telephone. The Iranians can call us if they want. We are not going to travel just to sit there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Trump denied that the move signals return to military operations in Tehran, saying: “No. It doesn’t mean that. We haven’t thought about it yet.”
