CAIRO - 25 April 2026: In line with the Egyptian state's efforts to strengthen the social protection system, the draft law on elderly care affirms its commitment to recognizing and honoring senior citizens for their long years of service and contributions to the nation.
The draft law stipulates a set of rights and provisions aimed at improving the quality of life for senior citizens.
These include addressing administrative and bureaucratic complexities within government agencies, ensuring their easy and convenient access to services.
The law also mandates that governmental and non-governmental entities, including judicial bodies and authorities, streamline procedures for senior citizens, allocating separate service windows for them to reduce overcrowding and expedite their transactions.
Regarding transportation, the draft law emphasizes the necessity of providing safe and accessible means of transport for senior citizens, protecting them from road hazards and accidents, and guaranteeing their freedom of movement.
With respect to privacy protection, the law guarantees the right of senior citizens to maintain the confidentiality of their personal data, in accordance with the provisions of the Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020, while taking into account national security requirements.
It also stipulated the commitment of the relevant ministry, in coordination with various concerned parties, to establish an integrated database for the elderly, to be used in planning and developing services provided to them, in addition to supporting monitoring and research systems, while ensuring the confidentiality of information.
