NICOSIA – 24 April 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has called on the European Union and its member states to continue supporting the Palestinian cause and urged moving forward with implementing the second phase of the Gaza peace plan.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with Arab, European and EU leaders in Cyprus, El-Sisi urged the EU and its nations to ensure that the Palestinian cause does not lose priority on the international agenda.
He emphasized that there is no alternative to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the internationally endorsed two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace in the region.
The president stressed on Friday that the Palestinian cause remains the core of the region’s crises and the central issue for the Arab world and the Middle East, warning against any actions that could undermine prospects for peace based on the two-state solution.
El-Sisi warned against allowing any party to exploit the current regional situation by taking measures that would undermine the prospects for peace and coexistence between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples, based on the two-state solution.
The president highlighted the continued escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem as well as the Gaza Strip
El-Sisi outlined several key priorities, reaffirming the importance of ensuring that the Palestinian people remain on their land.
He called for intensified international efforts to halt settlement expansion and prevent any attempts to displace Palestinians or liquidate their cause.
The president also underscored the need for the Palestinian national committee to assume responsibility for governing Gaza, alongside the swift deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire.
He stressed the necessity for Israel to adhere to its obligations under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, while urging all parties to proceed with implementing the second phase in full.
El-Sisi further called for the immediate launch of early recovery and reconstruction projects across the strip to ensure the restoration of normal life for its population.
