CAIRO – 24 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Thursday with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri.
The two officials discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and coordinated efforts to de-escalate the ongoing situation.
The call focused on efforts to solidify and build upon the current ceasefire agreement. In this context, the Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of Israel's full commitment to the ceasefire and the cessation of any violations that could undermine efforts to maintain calm.
He emphasized the importance of continuing and intensifying regional and international efforts to extend the ceasefire. The goal is to move toward a permanent and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, which would enable the return of displaced persons and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm and supportive stance toward Lebanon, rejecting any infringement on its sovereignty or territorial integrity. He stressed the need for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the full, non-selective implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701.
Finally, he reaffirmed that Egypt will continue to provide political and humanitarian support to the Lebanese people during this critical period.
