CAIRO – 23 April 2026: Egypt will set its clocks forward by one hour at midnight tonight as daylight saving time comes into effect with the start of Friday.
At exactly 12:00 midnight on Friday, the time will advance by 60 minutes, shifting immediately to 1:00 AM.
As the clocks move forward, individuals may experience a temporary disruption to their sleep patterns due to the adjustment in the body’s natural circadian rhythm, which is aligned with daylight cycles.
Despite the time change, daily routines, including working hours and scheduled appointments, usually remain unchanged.
Reintroduced in 2023 after a seven-year hiatus, the policy is part of government efforts to reduce electricity consumption. At the time, the Cabinet noted that the measure can save around 10% of energy,
Daylight saving time is linked to broader economic considerations, including reducing fuel imports and easing pressure on foreign currency reserves.
This year, the government has introduced a set of energy-saving measures, including early shop closures, partial remote working arrangements, and reduced street lighting, amid energy supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Iran-US war.
