President of Finland visits Grand Egyptian Museum and Giza Pyramids

CAIRO – 22 April 2026: As part of his official visit to Egypt, Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, and his accompanying delegation visited the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and the Giza Pyramids, accompanied by Mohamed Abdel Latif, Egypt's Minister of Education.

Upon their arrival at the Grand Egyptian Museum, the delegation was received by Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority. Dr. Ghoneim welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the museum’s architectural vision, its expansive galleries, and its significant archaeological treasures.

Following the reception, Mr. Sherif El-Sayed from the museum's Public Relations Department led the delegation on a comprehensive tour. He provided detailed insights into the museum's curatorial strategy and the historical context of its world-class displays. The tour included the outer courtyard, the main atrium, the Grand Staircase, and culminated at the highly anticipated King Tutankhamun galleries.

President Stubb expressed high praise for the museum, noting the unique nature of the artifacts and the "magnificent" quality of the collections. He particularly commended the exceptional display strategy and the modern presentation of Egypt's ancient heritage.

Following the GEM tour, the Finnish President proceeded to the Giza Pyramids plateau, where they were welcomed by Ashraf Mohi El-Din, Director General of Antiquities for Cairo and Giza. Mr. Mohi El-Din guided the delegation through the site, highlighting the history of the plateau, major archaeological discoveries, and ongoing excavation projects.

The President expressed his awe at the sheer scale of the Great Pyramid, inquiring about the ancient engineering techniques used for its construction and the logistics of transporting the massive stones. He described the site as both an engineering and architectural marvel.

Before concluding the visit, the President took several commemorative photos and expressed his desire to return in the future to explore the full extent of the archaeological area.
