CAIRO - 22 April 2026: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population continues its extensive efforts to enhance child health through the presidential initiative "Our Children’s Eyes... Our Future.
" Since its launch in January 2025 under the "100 Million Health", the initiative has successfully screened over 3.7 million primary school students across various governorates.
Targeting children aged 6 to 12, the program focuses on the early detection of vision problems such as weak eyesight and "lazy eye," conditions that directly impact academic performance and quality of life.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, stated that the initiative operates through a comprehensive system, starting with school-based screenings by trained medical teams and referring cases to Health Insurance clinics for advanced treatment.
- 24,500 Medical eyeglasses distributed.
- 1,300+ Surgical procedures performed.
- 30,000+ Cases provided with pharmaceutical treatment.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Health, Education, Social Solidarity, and Local Development. Beyond medical intervention, it aims to raise awareness among parents and teachers about the crucial importance of early eye care to prevent learning difficulties and social withdrawal.
