CAIRO - 21 April 2026: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, on Monday.
 
The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States, as well as a number of regional issues of mutual interest, most notably the latest developments in Sudan, Lebanon, the Horn of Africa, and Libya, in addition to Egypt's water security concerns.
 
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting reflected a shared appreciation for the depth of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, which is considered a cornerstone for supporting security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.
 
He noted the two sides' aspiration to enhance joint cooperation on various political and economic levels, and to continue close coordination and consultation on regional issues of mutual concern.
 
Regarding regional developments, the spokesperson confirmed that the meeting addressed the current situation in the region and the course of negotiations between the United States and Iran.
 
The Foreign Minister reviewed the efforts and contacts undertaken by Egypt to de-escalate tensions, emphasizing Egypt's support for the negotiation process and the importance of reaching a settlement that contributes to containing tensions and strengthening regional security and stability.
 
Regarding the situation in Sudan, Minister Abdelatty stressed the necessity of preserving Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, safeguarding its national institutions, and rejecting any external interference that could fuel the conflict or undermine the chances of a political settlement.
 
He also emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a prelude to a sustainable ceasefire, allowing for the delivery of humanitarian aid, alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, and creating the conditions for launching a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned political process.
 
He further stressed the importance of supporting Sudanese state institutions, maintaining their cohesion, and halting the targeting of civilians, civilian facilities, and infrastructure, thereby contributing to preventing further deterioration and preserving Sudan's stability and unity.
 
The meeting also addressed the situation in Lebanon, where Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast position of supporting respect for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, demanding a complete cessation of Israeli aggression, and supporting the empowerment of Lebanese national institutions, particularly the Lebanese army. He welcomed the recently announced ceasefire.
 
The meeting further tackled the situation in the Horn of Africa, where Minister Abdelatty stressed the need to respect the unity and sovereignty of the region's countries, particularly Somalia and Eritrea, in order to support regional security and stability.
 
Regarding water security, he reiterated that the Nile River is an existential issue for the Egyptian people, rejecting any unilateral actions concerning transboundary rivers.
 
For his part, Mosaad Boulos commended Egypt's leading and pivotal role as a cornerstone of security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.
 
He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in supporting regional stability and affirmed the US administration's commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership with Egypt and maintaining close coordination between the two countries to address shared challenges.
