CAIRO - 20 April 2026: President of Capital University (formerly Helwan University), Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, received Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, the European Union Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, on the sidelines of an open dialogue organized by the university's International Relations Office.
The meeting was attended by prominent academic leaders, including Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Dr. Hossam Refaie, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Israa Yasser Daoud, Director of the International Relations Office; and Mr. Atta Amin, Secretary of Helwan National University.
Comprehensive University Development
At the beginning of the meeting, the university president reviewed the history of Capital University's establishment and development, highlighting the expansions it has witnessed in recent years.
These expansions include the establishment of new faculties to meet labor market demands and the development of infrastructure, including the construction of a comprehensive medical complex with a capacity of 1,800 beds, in addition to the university club, the arts and culture complex, and the Helwan University Company for Educational Services Support.
He also pointed to the qualitative leap the university is undergoing through the establishment of a new branch in the Capital Gardens area, which includes modern educational programs that meet the needs of the community, in addition to expanding its diverse educational offerings through branches of the private and technological university.
Qandil emphasized the university's commitment to adopting its academic programs according to European standards, which will enhance its international competitiveness. He also highlighted the development of the physical education faculties, transforming them into faculties of sports science with modern specializations including sports management, marketing, and sports rehabilitation.
He further discussed the university's efforts to support international students, aiming to increase their percentage to 10% of the total student body by providing comprehensive services and distinguished educational programs.
Enhancing International Competitiveness and Building Sustainable Partnerships
For his part, Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab stressed the importance of informing the academic community about European scholarship opportunities, emphasizing the need to encourage students and researchers to take advantage of them.
Dr. Israa Yasser Daoud, Director of the International Relations Office, explained that the meeting was part of the office's efforts to provide interactive platforms that bring together decision-makers and the academic community, thus supporting international learning opportunities and cultural exchange.
During the meeting, the scholarship opportunities offered by the European Union were highlighted, including academic exchange programs, postgraduate studies, and initiatives to support scientific research and capacity building. The meeting also explored prospects for cooperation between Egyptian universities and European educational institutions.
The meeting witnessed significant interaction from the attendees, providing an opportunity for direct dialogue between the ambassador and students and faculty members. This allowed for answers to their inquiries about European scholarships and programs, how to benefit from them, and discussions on opportunities for academic cooperation and international exchange.
The meeting targeted faculty members, teaching assistants, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as all those interested in study opportunities in Europe, in a clear affirmation of the Capital University’s commitment to promoting international cooperation, expanding global learning horizons, and enabling its students and researchers to access the best educational and research opportunities at the international level.
