CAIRO - 18 APRIL 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam held a meeting to review the performance of the ministry’s unit responsible for monitoring internationally funded projects, as part of efforts to improve efficiency and align investments with national water priorities.

The meeting reviewed the unit’s strategy and its role in managing and developing projects, alongside a presentation on the ministry’s project portfolio system, which aims to ensure integration across initiatives and link them to strategic priorities.

Officials also discussed mechanisms for managing grants in a way that supports Egypt’s efforts to address water scarcity and climate change, in line with the objectives of the “Water 2.0” framework.

Monitoring progress and preparing future projects

The session highlighted measures to track ongoing projects through stronger oversight systems designed to ensure compliance with timelines and implementation targets according to high standards.

At the same time, the ministry is working on developing a pipeline of future projects that are ready for funding and implementation, in line with the evolving needs of Egypt’s water sector.

The meeting also reviewed frameworks for cooperation with the private sector, aimed at strengthening partnerships and ensuring the sustainability of project execution.

In addition, efforts are underway to improve the unit’s operational processes to enhance institutional efficiency and support faster decision-making.

Focus on sustainability and impact

Sewilam said these efforts are part of the ministry’s broader vision under the second generation of the Water 2.0 system, which focuses on sustainable water resource management, improving project efficiency, and maximizing the benefits of international financing.

He stressed the importance of continued coordination between the project monitoring unit, various ministry departments, and international development partners.

The minister added that the true measure of success lies in delivering tangible development outcomes that directly improve irrigation efficiency and enhance services for beneficiaries, while supporting Egypt’s wider sustainable development goals.
