FM discusses Egypt's efforts to support security and stability with US senator

CAIRO – 16 April 2026: Egypt’s Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday with Senator David McCormick, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as part of his meetings with congressional leaders during his visit to Washington.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and develop avenues of cooperation in the political and economic fields.

Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between Egypt and Congress, which supports bilateral relations and the shared interests of both countries.

The Minister also extended an invitation to Senator McCormick to visit Egypt, particularly in light of the preparations for the second Egyptian-American Economic Forum this year.

The Foreign Minister also extended an invitation to Senator McCormick to visit Egypt in the near future, especially given the ongoing arrangements for the second Egyptian-American Economic Forum to be held this year.

Minister Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt's tireless efforts to support security and stability in the Middle East, emphasizing that the Egyptian-American partnership is vital to these efforts. The meeting also addressed several regional issues, including the military escalation in the region and Egypt's efforts to contain tensions, as well as developments related to the Palestinian issue, Lebanon, and Sudan.

For his part, Senator McCormick expressed his keenness to strengthen the Egyptian-American strategic partnership, praising Egypt's active diplomatic role and its efforts to support security and stability in the Middle East, particularly in relation to de-escalation.

He expressed his appreciation for Egyptian foreign policy, which he described as a model of wisdom and balance in dealing with regional and international issues and which has effectively contributed to supporting peace and stability efforts in the region.
