CAIRO – 16 April 2026: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed his gratitude and appreciation, on behalf of the Lebanese government and people, to the Egyptian leadership on Thursday.
The statement followed the U.S. President’s announcement of a 10-day ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
During a phone call between Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Migrants, Badr Abdelatty, and Prime Minister Salam, the Lebanese leader thanked Egypt for its consistent efforts to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and the well-being of its people.
For his part, Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's unwavering position in support of Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel is set to take effect at midnight. Trump indicated that he had spoken with both the Lebanese President and the Israeli Prime Minister and has since instructed his Vice President and Secretary of State to coordinate with both sides toward a permanent resolution.
President Trump affirmed that both Lebanon and Israel desire peace, expressing his belief that a lasting agreement could be reached soon. He called for continued efforts to secure a durable end to the conflict and announced that he would invite both the Israeli Prime Minister and the Lebanese President to the White House for the first round of serious, direct negotiations between the two parties.
