CAIRO - 16 April 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired on Thursday a meeting of the main committee responsible for legalizing the status of churches and their affiliated service buildings.
Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa el-Menshawy along with ministers and officials from a number of ministries and relevant bodies took part in the meeting.
Official spokesperson for the Cabinet Mohamed el-Homsany said the committee reviewed the results of inspections conducted since its last meeting regarding the status of churches and service buildings that had applied for legalization.
During the meeting, the committee approved the legalization of 191 churches and affiliated buildings. The move brings the total number of churches and buildings whose status has been regularized since the committee began its work to 3,804, the spokesman said.
The committee also stressed the importance of adhering to civil protection requirements and completing all related conditions, he added.
The meeting also reviewed compliance with civil protection requirements for churches whose legalization had previously been approved in light of the great importance the committee places on fulfilling these conditions, according to the spokesman.
