CAIRO – 15 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Migration, Badr Abdelatty, met on Wednesday with Stefan Emblad, the World Bank’s Country Director for the West Bank, Gaza, and the Middle East.
The two officials discussed strategies to enhance joint cooperation in supporting early recovery and large-scale reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. Their talks also focused on mechanisms for coordinating international aid to ensure an effective response to the humanitarian and development needs of the Palestinian people.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering position on the Palestinian cause. He emphasized the urgency of fully implementing the second phase of President Trump's peace plan, ensuring the unhindered flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, and opening all border crossings to alleviate the ongoing suffering in Gaza.
The Foreign Minister also underscored the importance of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza commencing its operations from within the Strip. He noted that establishing the committee on the ground is essential for managing daily affairs and paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to eventually resume its full functions.
Minister Abdelatty praised the World Bank's extensive experience in post-conflict reconstruction. He highlighted the Bank's vital role in ensuring sustainable living conditions for Palestinians and implementing high-priority projects for early recovery. He expressed Egypt's readiness to cooperate fully with both the World Bank and the Board of Peace in this regard.
Furthermore, Minister Abdelatty warned against actions that could exploit regional instability to undermine peace efforts and the broader goal of coexistence between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples. He pointed specifically to escalating violations in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem as significant threats to stability.
For his part, Stefan Emblad commended Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its tireless efforts to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He expressed the World Bank’s appreciation for Egypt’s comprehensive vision—which links humanitarian relief with long-term development tracks—and affirmed the Bank's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Egypt to achieve sustainable development for the Palestinian people.
