CAIRO - 13 April 2026: The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood has expressed its deep appreciation for the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding the swift completion and submission of draft laws regulating Egyptian family affairs to the House of Representatives.

These draft laws include legislation governing family matters for both Muslims and Christians, in addition to a proposed law to establish a Family Support Fund.

The Council affirmed that these directives reflect the political leadership’s strong commitment to supporting the stability of Egyptian families and fostering a safe and nurturing environment for children. The initiative aims to safeguard children’s best interests while addressing current social challenges.

Furthermore, the Council noted that these draft laws represent a significant step toward providing comprehensive and sustainable solutions to family-related issues. They are expected to strengthen the social protection system, reinforce children’s rights, and enhance the cohesion of Egyptian families.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed the government on Monday to expedite the submission of draft laws concerning the Egyptian family to Parliament.

The President emphasized that these drafts have been in preparation for some time and are designed to provide comprehensive solutions to the problems arising from existing legislation. He noted that the new laws were developed in close consultation with scholars and specialists to ensure they address modern societal needs.

The President’s directives came after a woman in Alexandria died by suicide during a livestream on Facebook, after speaking about psychological distress and individuals she said “had made her life more difficult.”
