CAIRO – 12 April 2026: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, supporting its national institutions, and rejecting the establishment of parallel entities.
During a phone call with Annette Weber, the European Union’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa on Sunday, Abdelatty underscored the need to launch a Sudanese-owned political process to end the conflict.
The call addressed recent developments in the region and ways to support security, stability, and development, besides the discussion of preparations for the Berlin Ministerial Conference on Sudan, scheduled for April 15.
The Foreign Minister further emphasized the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a first step toward a sustainable ceasefire, enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. He condemned violations against civilians, describing them as a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law, and stressed the need to protect civilians and vital infrastructure.
Both sides highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation to promote security, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa, particularly amid ongoing regional tensions. They also stressed the importance of supporting national institutions across the region.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Somalia, including continued capacity-building efforts to strengthen security and stability, especially in addressing terrorism and extremism. He also emphasized the need to secure sustainable funding for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to enable it to effectively carry out its mandate.
