CAIRO – 12 April 2026: A woman in Alexandria has died by suicide during a livestream on Facebook, after speaking about psychological distress and individuals she said “had made her life more difficult.”
Security authorities in Alexandria are investigating the death of the woman after falling from the 13th floor during the livestream.
The incident, which left two young daughters behind, prompted swift intervention from the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM).
NCCM Chair Sahar El-Sonbaty instructed the child rescue department to immediately follow up on the case and ensure full support for the children.
She ordered the provision of psychological and social care for the two girls, while monitoring their situation with their maternal grandmother.
El-Sonbaty also directed close follow-up on the ongoing investigation by the prosecution, stressing the need to ensure a safe and stable environment for the girls.
Appeal to Stop Sharing Video
The NCCM chief urged social media users and media outlets to exercise responsibility and refrain from sharing any videos or images related to the incident.
She warned of the potential psychological harm to the children and the family, and emphasized the necessity to respect their privacy and dignity.
The council extended its condolences to the family, praying for mercy for the deceased and for patience and comfort for her relatives.
Social media users have circulated footage from the livestream in which the woman was heard saying final words, urging care for her children.
