CAIRO – 10 April 2026: The Ministry of Health and Population announced that 21,259,093 citizens nationwide have been screened as part of the Presidential Initiative for the Screening and Treatment of Chronic Diseases and Early Detection of Kidney Disease since its launch in September 2021.

This milestone underscores the state's commitment to providing free preventive and therapeutic services to its citizens.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's official spokesperson, explained that the initiative is being implemented through 3,601 primary healthcare units across all governorates.

The program targets citizens over 40 years of age, as well as young people aged 18 and above who have a medical history of chronic conditions. This proactive approach ensures early detection and the provision of high-quality healthcare without financial burden.

The initiative's comprehensive services include blood pressure measurements, random and HbA1c glucose tests, blood lipid levels, kidney function tests, and Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations.

Additionally, the program provides awareness sessions on risk factors and establishes regular follow-up programs based on initial screening results, which helps raise health literacy and prevents the development of serious complications.

Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that patients diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes receive free monthly medication from their local health unit. Cases requiring specialized intervention are immediately referred to hospitals for treatment at the state's expense, significantly reducing the risk of chronic kidney failure and preserving patients' quality of life.

He further noted that the initiative is based on the latest scientific guidelines developed by a joint committee from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The framework includes ongoing training for medical staff on the use of modern early detection devices for kidney disease and ensures a seamless referral system for confirmed cases, embodying the integration of primary and advanced care services.

The spokesperson urged citizens with hypertension, diabetes, or a family history of these conditions to visit their nearest health unit to benefit from these free services. He stressed that early detection is the most effective way to avoid long-term complications, reaffirming that the health of citizens remains a top priority for the Egyptian state as the initiative continues to expand its reach.
