CAIRO – 9 April 2026: The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas on Wednesday resulted in 303 deaths and 1,150 injuries, in an initial count that is expected to rise.
The ministry clarified that these figures are not final, as search and rescue operations continue, and the wounded are being transported to hospitals amidst immense pressure on the healthcare sector.
This toll comes amidst a broad military escalation, with intensified Israeli airstrikes on various regions, exacerbating the humanitarian situation.
These figures reflect the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe, with the number of victims increasing and the bombardment continuing, amid warnings of a further deterioration of the situation in the coming period.
Egypt strongly condemned on Wednesday the series of blatant Israeli strikes and raids targeting broad areas of Lebanon, which have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of civilians in flagrant violation of international law and norms.
In a statement released, Egypt expressed its total condemnation and denunciation of this brutal aggression, noting the deliberate and systematic targeting of vital civilian facilities and infrastructure.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the strikes as a blatant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as a grave breach of the rules of international humanitarian law.
Egypt affirmed that these Israeli violations—occurring just one day after the United States and Iran announced a ceasefire—are completely at odds with the constructive and positive spirit that has emerged in the region following the truce.
The statement suggested that the attacks reflect a premeditated intention to undermine the tireless efforts exerted by regional and international parties to de-escalate tensions and prioritize dialogue.
