CAIRO - 9 April 2026: The 2026 SCImago Ranking saw an increase in the number of Egyptian universities included, reaching 55 in 2026, compared to 52 in 2025.
This reflects a gradual improvement in the performance of higher education institutions.
The ranking is based on three main pillars: scientific research, innovation, and societal impact.
A composite index allows for a comprehensive evaluation of university performance and comparisons with global universities.
Alexandria University ranked 4th locally, 10th in Africa, and in the first quartile (Q1) globally, with its Dentistry school in the top 50. Sohag University led in Earth and Planetary Sciences.
Sohag University achieved 1st place among Egyptian universities in Earth and Planetary Sciences and 2nd in Chemistry.
Tanta University ranked 1458 globally (a 114-place improvement), 23rd in Africa, and 10th in Egypt.
The ranking (available at SCImago Institutions Rankings) measures research, innovation, and social impact based on Scopus data.
