CAIRO – 6 April 2026: Mediators are making a significant, last-ditch effort to secure a 45-day ceasefire to the Iranian war.

According to Axios, negotiations are being conducted through mediators from Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey; however, the chances of reaching an agreement within the next 48 hours remain slim.

Reports indicate that President Trump’s 10-day deadline for Iran, which was expected to expire on Monday evening, has been extended by an additional 20 hours. The new deadline, Tuesday at 8 p.m.,represents the final opportunity for a deal before the U.S. launches a large-scale air campaign against Iran.

President Trump told Axios on Sunday that the U.S. is “in deep negotiations” with Iran and expressed hope that a deal could be reached before Tuesday’s deadline. "There is a good chance, but if they don't make a deal, I am blowing up everything over there," he stated.

While the Trump administration has presented Iran with several proposals, Iranian officials have not yet accepted them. The proposed two-phase plan involves a 45-day ceasefire, during which a permanent end to the war would be negotiated, followed by a second phase consisting of a final agreement to conclude the hostilities.

According to Axios, mediators believe that the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a resolution regarding Iran's highly enriched uranium can only be achieved as part of a final, comprehensive deal.
