CAIRO – 5 April 2026: Egypt strongly condemned “acts of rioting and attempted vandalism” targeting the United Arab Emirates’ diplomatic mission and the residence of its head of mission in Damascus.

In a statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry stressed the need to uphold international law and ensure the protection and security of diplomatic missions, their premises, and personnel in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The ministry added that any targeting of diplomatic missions constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.

Egypt also reaffirmed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and underscored the importance of taking all necessary measures to safeguard diplomatic missions in line with international legal obligations.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the UAE embassy in Damascus on Friday, with some reportedly attempting to storm the compound after breaking away from a larger pro-Palestinian demonstration.

However, Syrian security forces intervened and contained the situation, a security official told Reuters.
