CAIRO – 2 April 2026: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met on Thursday with Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian National Security Council, during an official visit to Moscow.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty expressed his appreciation for the strategic partnership between the two countries, highlighting the remarkable development in Egyptian-Russian relations across various fields in recent years.

The Foreign Minister expressed his aspiration to continue joint efforts to elevate bilateral cooperation to reflect the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister Abdelatty commended the outcomes of the Russian National Security Council Secretary's previous visit to Cairo in November 2025 and the results of his consultations with Ambassador Fayza Abou El-Naga, Advisor to the President for National Security. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation to support national security priorities and enhance regional and international peace.

According to the spokesperson, the meeting addressed several regional issues, most notably escalating tensions. Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's intensive diplomatic efforts to contain the situation, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the best option to prevent the conflict from spreading.

He also touched upon the outcomes of a recent quadrilateral ministerial meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan, reaffirming Egypt's tireless efforts to support regional stability.

The meeting included an exchange of views on developments in the Horn of Africa. Minister Abdelatty stressed Egypt's support for international efforts to stabilize Somalia and the Horn of Africa, asserting that the governance of the Red Sea is an exclusive matter for littoral states responsible for its security.

On the issue of water security—an existential concern for Egypt—the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of cooperation in accordance with international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries. He emphasized Egypt's rejection of unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin that violate international law.

Finally, the meeting addressed the situation in Libya. The Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt’s firm position in support of Libya's unity and stability, stressing the importance of unifying national institutions and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-Libyan process to facilitate simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
