CAIRO- 2 April 2026: Russian President Vladimir Putin invited President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to visit Russia, saying that both countries can establish a hub for grains and energy in Egypt.

 

In his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Thursday, Putin said he had directed the Russian government to provide Egypt with food commodities, especially grains, describing Egypt as a strategic partner.

 

At the direction of the President of the Republic, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, Russian President met with Vladimir Putin, on Thursday, April 2, during his official visit to Moscow. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional developments of mutual interest.

 

Minister Abdelatty conveyed President El-Sisi’s greetings and delivered a written message addressing ways to further develop bilateral relations, enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries, and maintain coordination on regional and international issues. He also expressed Egypt’s strong appreciation for its strategic partnership with Russia, underscored by the ongoing exchange of high-level visits between officials of both nations.

 

President Putin asked that his greetings be conveyed to President El-Sisi and praised the depth of Egyptian-Russian relations and the fruitful cooperation across various sectors. He also commended Egypt’s constructive role in mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, supporting regional security and stability in the Middle East, and preventing further escalation.

 

According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty reviewed key aspects of bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the importance Egypt places on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project and welcomed Russia’s commitment to completing it according to schedule. He also emphasized the significance of the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, describing it as a major milestone and stressing the need to begin implementation as soon as possible, given strong interest from Russian companies.

 

The minister further praised ongoing cooperation in the import of wheat, grains, and oils from Russia, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to expanding this partnership. The Russian side, in turn, confirmed its readiness to strengthen cooperation in food security, including plans for a logistics center for grains and energy.

 

The discussions also covered key regional issues, particularly escalating tensions in the Middle East. Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation, emphasizing that dialogue and political solutions remain the most effective path to preventing further conflict. He also referenced the outcomes of the recent quadrilateral ministerial meeting held in Islamabad, reaffirming Egypt’s continued commitment to regional stability.

 

Additionally, the meeting addressed developments related to the Palestinian issue, especially in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as well as Egypt’s ongoing efforts in this regard. Both sides emphasized the importance of achieving a comprehensive and just solution based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

 

The talks also touched on developments in Sudan and Libya, the situation in the Horn of Africa, and water security as a vital national priority for Egypt, stressing the importance of adherence to international law.
