CAIRO - 2 April 2026: The Cabinet's media center on Thursday, April 2, 2026, officially refuted rumors regarding government plans to suspend internet services during nighttime hours as part of electricity load-shedding measures.
In a statement, the center said it had consulted with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), which clarified that no official decisions have been made in this regard, nor are there any ongoing studies or intentions to cut internet access to conserve energy.
Officials emphasized that telecommunications and internet services remain fully operational and efficient across all governorates. They reassured the public that connectivity is unaffected by the national electricity rationalization measures currently implemented in response to ongoing regional and international developments.
The NTRA further explained that Egypt’s digital infrastructure is managed through precise technical and operational frameworks designed to guarantee service continuity and ensure the internet remains live 24/7 without interruption, quality control, and constant monitoring of performance indicators to maintain high speeds and stability, as well as strategic coordination and seamless cooperation with service providers to protect user interests.
The Ministry and the NTRA urged social media users to verify information through official channels before sharing news that could cause public confusion. The NTRA concluded by asserting its right to take legal action against the dissemination of false information intended to disrupt public order.
